Seatbelt and driving

The seatbelt and its ejections, turn signals and cruise control in Aurora HUD, and what an admin sets for the whole server.

Three systems the HUD can run itself, all set in /hud → Admin → Vehicles and all applying to every player. Each can be turned off and fed by another script instead. See Exports.

Off by default. While on, the game’s own windscreen ejection is suppressed in managed seats and the rules below apply instead. Turning it off restores the game’s behaviour.

Seats managed front only (driver and passenger)
Excluded motorcycles, bicycles
On entering a seat belt starts unbuckled
Setting Default Effect
Eject without seatbelt on An unbelted player leaves through the windscreen in a heavy crash
Eject with seatbelt off Allows a violent enough crash to eject a belted player
Mode Fixed Fixed: certain past the minimum speed. Probability: chance climbs from nothing at the minimum to certain at the maximum
Minimum speed 80 km/h Below it, nobody is ejected
Maximum probability speed 160 km/h Probability mode only: the speed at which ejection is certain

A crash counts when the vehicle hits something and loses at least 30 km/h on impact, while travelling at or above the minimum speed. Hard braking does not count.

The ejected player is dropped in front of the vehicle, ragdolled, carrying the vehicle’s velocity, so distance travelled scales with speed.

On by default. Left, right and hazards, for the driver of a ground vehicle. The keys do nothing on a bicycle, boat, aircraft or train.

The state is written onto the vehicle, so other players see the indicators light up, and every occupant sees the same state on their own HUD.

On by default, for the driver of a ground vehicle.

Engages from 10 km/h
Holds the speed at the moment it was switched on
Adjustment step 5 km/h by default, set in the menu

It disengages, with a reason, when:

  • the player brakes or pulls the handbrake
  • the tank runs dry
  • the engine stops, breaks, or the vehicle takes damaging impact
  • the player leaves the driver’s seat

Turn the matching system off, then push its state with SetSeatbelt, SetSignal or SetCruise. While a HUD system is on it is the source of truth and those exports return false.

For the reverse, with another script reacting to the HUD’s seatbelt, signals or cruise, use the Custom.OnSeatbeltChanged / OnSignalChanged / OnCruiseChanged hooks in config/client.lua. See Integrations.
